The relevance of the article determined by differences between cultures of peoples and epochs that need to be taken into account during the translation proces. The principles and creative principles of translation are historically and ideologically aesthetically predetermined, therefore, the requirement to reproduce the national color, to reflect in translation a whole complex of folk and historical features of the original is an actual problem and needs to be studied in detail. The translation of fiction is a part of the great and important problem of the preserve of national and historical originality, which is the main part of the national-literary process, since it acts as a literary mediator.

The purpose of this article is to study the peculiarities of reproduction of Ukrainian-language literary text in English translations; realities as linguistic units, as well as analysis of the basic means of reproduction of semantic-stylistic features of Ukrainian fiction in English translations.

The object of analysis in the article is the works of Ukrainian fiction and the specifics of their reproduction in English translations.

The article deals with the problems of determining the main ways and features of translation in reproducing the national color of the Ukrainian-language literary work, the plurality of translations of works of art; the essence of verbal means of reproduction of works of Ukrainian writers in English-language translations is determined.

The material shows that when translating into the English language of a specific national vocabulary that is found in Ukrainian literature, translators often resort to such translation methods as transcription, descriptive, and hyperonymic translation.

Transcription is one of the most commonly used ways of transmitting in translation, because it promotes the transfer of the reader to the atmosphere of another's language, in addition, it is the most flexible way of translation, which creates a certain expressive potential: in the context of the words of the native language, the transcribed word stands out as someone else, gives the subject , which it denotes, connotations of inexcusable, originality. Although some translators believe that translation of purely national concepts in artistic texts should not be transcribed, because the transcribed word may appear to be incomprehensible, difficult to pronounce, often completely devoid of meaning for a reader who does not speak the source language. If it is necessary to create a high degree of explicitness in the translation process, use descriptive translation. In this case, the translator creates a descriptive method, by means of which the value of reality is transmitted not directly, but descriptively, because of its characteristic features. Comparison of English translations of Ukrainian poetry with its originals showed that it was with the help of descriptive translation that translators could most accurately and adequately reproduce semantics and stylistic functions of nationally-marked lexical units.

The results of this study extend the comprehension of the translation as a scientific problem, as evidenced by the function of translation scholarship in the development of literary studies, which deepens the understanding of the tasks and perspectives of the literary process in general and the individual creativity of the artist in particular.
