THE PECULIARITIES OF MOTIVATIONAL RELATIONS IN RUSSIAN TERMINOLOGY OF URBAN ACOUSTICS

Abstract

The relevance of the article is due to the interest of modern researchers to terms, terminological systems and terminology in general, and to the issues of streamlining and improvement of branch terminological systems in particular.

The purpose of the article is a lexicological analysis of motivational relations in Russian Urban Acoustics terminology.

The lexical units of the Urban Acoustics terminology are the objects of the article study. The lexical-semantic structures in the scientific and technical texts of articles, monographs, normative documents, as well as vocabulary materials are subjects of the research.

The article presents the structural-semantic analysis of motivational relations in Russian Urban Acoustics terminology. The paradigmatic relations and with the respect to the formal-semantic derivatives of the term of this terminology system are identified and described.

. This terminology is a holistic, widely branched and systemically organized terminology that covers all the basic concepts of the field of urban planning acoustics. The consistency of the analyzed terminology is manifested both by its subject-conceptual organization and by the orderliness, depending on its own linguistic factors, identifying the relations (paradigmatic and syntagmatic) of one words to other words. The consistency of terminology is manifested in the thematic groups themselves. These groups are combined on the basis of a semantic and functional community. The hyper-hyponymic, synonymic, antonymic and motivational relations are identified within these groups.

It is noted that the strict hierarchy, interrelation and interdependence of the conceptual sphere inherent to this terminology is transferred by terminological units due to the presence of the classification type of relations. Russian urban acoustics terminology is a combination of thematic and semantic groups and sub-groups systematically organized and interrelated. At the content plan level, the investigated terminology is systemic not only due to the fact that its terms reflect the special terms. Since the term is the unit of lexical-semantic language system, albeit a specific unit, the semantic common-language links. are also implemented in the terminology. I.e. consistency of terminology is manifested in the thematic groups themselves. These groups are combined on the basis of semantic and functional commonality. The hyper-hyponymic, synonymic, antonymic and motivational relations manifest themselves within these groups. Thus the presence of the motivational relations (the relations of formal-semantic derivatives of the term) in the investigated terminology is one of the manifestations of its systematic nature. Many of the urban acoustics terms are combined not only because of commonness  of the concepts denoted, but also as a consequence of the presence of semantic relations of mutual motivation of correlative entities. Each of these formations acts as a synchronous derivative with respect to the other member of the pair. Such relations literally permeate the entire system of the studied terminology.

The results of this study contribute to the further development of paradigmatics, theory of nomination, linguosemiotics, to the study of speech variability of the lexical meaning of terminological vocabulary and broaden the horizons of the lexicological research of branch terminologies. The acquisition of new data, especially in other languages and their comparative characteristic is a very interesting problem for further research
